There are several islands in the Atlantic Ocean, but the Canary Islands take a special place. This island is located on the Spanish mainland. It is also the capital of the Gran Canaria and Santa canary islands. This island is also the most beautiful island in Spain. The island is located in the Macorina region of the North Atlantic ocean. Part of the island is also contiguous to the African continent. But this is mainly part of Europe. It is a popular tourist destination due to its location in the Americas, Africa, and parts of Europe.

More than 12 million tourists visit the site each year.

Researchers say the volcanic eruptions formed the Canary islands millions of years ago. Evidence of this can be seen in the small volcanoes that still exist today. When explorers discovered Europe, several small islands were located and erupted. Today they are called ruined cities. Main ones are Tenerife, Lanzarote, El Hierro and La Palma. The Canary Islands are known as “Islas Canarias” Latin, It meaning “Islands of the Dogs”. ​According to the Pliny the Elder, the Canary Island is lived a large number of dogs. The Guanches, the first tribes to live here, worshiped these dogs and named them sacred animals. Details of this can be seen in the ancient wall carvings. Other theories suggest that the name is derived from the Nukkari Berber tribe living in the Moroccan Atlas. Other named in Roman sources as Canaria. It is considered that the aborigines of Gran Canaria called themselves “Canarios”. All the islands became known as the Canaries after the Spanish conquest of the area.
